Mangrove Issues
Mangroves truly give life to the Sea. We want to bring awareness to the profound importance Mangroves contribute to the Ocean’s ecosystem.
It is estimated that more than one third of the world’s Mangroves have been lost in the past 50 years. The majority of this loss is attributable to man. Through careless real estate development, unsustainable shrimp aquaculture, oil exploration and extraction Mangroves are under severe, ongoing threats.
The results of Mangrove deforestation are extensive and far reaching.
Mangroves are a critical component of the shallow water marine ecosystem throughout the Oceans of the world. They provide nursery habitat for coral reef fishes, a home for threatened and endangered species, and a natural filter for nutrients and pollutants running downstream and out to sea. Mangroves also act as a buffer, protecting people from the full impact of storms and associated erosion.
